Protex Category List

Below are general descriptions of the categories used to generate the different Protex profiles. These files contain both URL lists (from URLblacklist.com) and phraselists. Although called URLblacklist.com their lists are not all blacklists: some are lists of good sites and are meant to be used as "whitelists". Similarly the phraselists are used for blocking; trusting and for content-checking. Thus some of the categories below (e.g. hygiene) are "whitelists" while others (e.g. adult) are "blacklists". The category names are not consistent between the URLBlacklilst.com URL lists and the Dansguardian phraselists so the names used below are a rationalization into what we consider to be a manageable collection.

The filter profiles (e.g. Primary, Middle, etc) are created by applying or not the various categories listed below. A further distinction between the lists is the value of the "naughtiness limit": this is the numerical value that triggers a page to be blocked when being content checked. The higher this threshold the less aggressive the content filtering.

A collection of lists that the Libraries decided should be content checked.
This includes some that would normally be blocked in the school profiles:
ads; aduio-video; cellphones; chat; dating; ecommerce; entertianment; gambling;
kidstimewasting; onlineauctions; onlinegames; religion; ringtones; vacation;
searchengines; intolerance.

Similar to violence but more promoting than depicting
